Join Poiema Visual Arts for our first Artist Inspiration Hike on November 8, 2026! Artist member Karen Thomas, a Certified Pennsylvania Master Naturalist, will share her love of the outdoors with us & introduce the concept of nature journaling. This will be a time of togetherness that makes space for both the artists and photographers in our midst. We will meet on the porch of the Environmental Center.
During the outing, Karen will:
Give an intro to nature journaling
Explain how to use the Seek App to identify plants, animals, bugs and how photography can be useful when wanting to draw at a later time.
Talk briefly about what to look for when we go for our hike: change of seasons, leaves, oat grass and other grasses and dried meadow flowers, mushrooms, how animals prepare for winter.
We will begin a slow hike on the Boardwalk, which is accessible to people with difficulty walking or wheelchairs. There are benches along the Boardwalk for resting or sketching. The boardwalk allows for a beautiful stroll through the forest. Those that are able will continue hiking on Trail 16, the interpretive trail.
The group will return to the tables on the porch at the Nature Center for a time of art journaling. Photographers may continue to capture the beauty of the forest during this time.
At 3:30 pm we will gather to share our experiences interacting with God’s creation.
To RSVP, please email poiemavisualarts@gmail.com by Saturday, November 7th.
For assistance in finding the group’s exact meeting place, type “Governor Dick Parking Lot” into your GPS. If it rains, the hike will be postponed until the spring.
